Craft that can't be outsourced.

Four generations of one family's workshops have spun, woven and finished natural-fibre textiles in Srinagar. THE BAAF brings that craft to international brands as a manufacturing partner — not a handicraft supplier.

Who we are

A manufacturing house, not a handicraft shop.

THE BAAF is a fourth-generation family manufacturing house rooted in Srinagar. Across five workshops and a network of roughly ninety artisan families, we hand-spin, hand-weave, dye, embroider and finish Pashmina, wool and silk — and produce carpets and contemporary apparel on power looms where the product calls for it. We develop and manufacture for international brands: private label, custom collections and production built around your specification.

What we make

Four material worlds, one workshop network.

Every category below is made in the same workshops, by the same artisan families — the difference is fibre, technique and finish.

Machines can be shipped anywhere. Fibre can be shipped anywhere. What can't be relocated is a family that has spent four generations learning exactly how a thread behaves before it becomes cloth.

Materials

Natural by choice.

We work in three fibres: Pashmina, wool and silk. Pashmina begins as raw fibre from the Changthang plateau, entering the Kashmir craft ecosystem to be cleaned, carded and hand-spun in Srinagar. Our wool comes from Kashmir's own mountain sheep. Every fibre is spun, woven and finished in our workshops — the material is part of the craft, not a shortcut around it.

We don't substitute synthetic fibre for natural where a product calls for wool, silk or Pashmina. If a specification needs something else, we'll tell you plainly rather than compromise the material.

From fibre to finished piece

A craft that moves through many hands.

Spinner, weaver, dyer, embroiderer, finisher — a single piece can pass through several specialists before it's ready. We're explicit about which stages are handloom and which are power-loom; we don't blur the two under one generic label.

Heritage

Four generations. One living craft.

"Baaf" is the Kashmiri word for a weaver — the person at the loom, not the pattern on the cloth. It's the name we chose because the people have always mattered more than any single product: the family has worked in this trade for four generations, and the knowledge behind it is inherited, not invented for a brand.

THE BAAF, the company, is newly built — a dedicated platform for that craft to work with international brands. The craft behind it is not new at all.

Custom manufacturing

From our looms to your label.

Bring us a design, a moodboard, a reference sample or a colour palette — we'll advise on material, develop a sample, and take an approved product into production under your own label. Traditional motifs, reinterpreted for a contemporary collection, are as much our work as anything historic.

Keeping this craft alive means letting it evolve — we work as comfortably with a minimalist European design brief as with a traditional Kashmiri motif.

Quality & trust

Reputation built over generations. Verified when you need it to be.

Our workshops have built their name on word of mouth, long before there was a website. We support laboratory testing and fibre verification for buyers who require it, and we're direct about what's handloom, what's power-loom, and where our registration stands — GST is in place; our IEC is currently in process.
